Sadie Bowman

Sadie Bowman of Intrepid Herbivores: Sadie is host of The Intrepid Herbivores, A vegan TV show about travel and food, produced with Joe Bourguignon. Sadie has a background in comedy and theatre arts and her greatest interests are eating and cooking, traveling and learning languages, and performing in funny scenarios. Sadie has spent time visiting and studying the local languages in Italy, Quebec and Argentina, and has traveled via backpack to almost every populated continent. Her entertainment credits include originating the nationally touring educational hit “Calculus: The Musical!”  She has been vegetarian since the approximate age of 12 (in the early ’90s) and committed to veganism in 2010. We interviewed Sadie during Vida Vegan Con 2013.

Rene Oswald

Rene Oswald: Rene is a registered nurse, author, and an advanced practitioner of health. After she was diagnosed with a rare, debilitating, and incurable disease, Rene found healing through adopting a diet of whole, organic, raw food. She spent the next few years learning how to make these healing foods into tasty and easy to prepare dishes and founded the Transitioning to Living Cuisine Program. We interviewed Rene at our studio in Bend.

Fran Costigan

Fran Costigan: Chef Fran Costigan is an internationally recognized culinary instructor, author, and consultant whose innovative recipes marry healthy eating with sumptuous tastes. A graduate of the New York Restaurant School and the Natural Gourmet Institute, Fran worked as a pastry chef in both traditional and vegan kitchens, before moving into the teaching kitchen over 20 years ago. Home cooks and professionals enjoy her lively classes in New York City, and she presents demonstrations and workshops at events throughout North America and Europe. Look for Fran’s newest cookbook, “Vegan Chocolate: Unapologetically Luscious and Decadent Dairy Free Desserts.” We interviewed Fran during Vida Vegan Con 2013.

Join Mercy for Animals (MFA) and VegNet Bend on Wednesday, October 23 at 10:30 a.m., when MFA stops in Bend on their Why Love One, and Eat the Other? tour to spark a conversation about why we call some animals pets and others dinner. Location: Drake Park at Northwest Riverside Boulevard and Northwest Kansas Avenue, Bend.

On Tuesday, October 22nd at 9pm, Los Angeles band Trapdoor Social will be playing at the Volcanic Theatre Pub. Trapdoor Social will be in Bend for one day as part of their tour and message of sustainability. Location: Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend.

Stephan Nance

“Japanese Garden” is by vegan artist Stephan Nance. Stephan Nance (whose first name is pronounced like Steven but never, ever spelled like that) was born in Eugene, Oregon, but raised outside any municipality, in the unincorporated area of Santa Clara. Like his childhood home, Stephan’s songwriting resists annexation; he specializes in awkwardly charming vegan straight-edge queer alternative piano folk rock. His is not the voice of the majority, nor the voice of a generation… but it is a voice worth listening to.

Stephan has not eaten meat since 1997 and has been vegan for the past two years. Because of his steadfast commitment to the animal rights movement, he does his best to incorporate his beliefs into his music career. He has performed at numerous vegan events over the past few years from the 2011 Vida Vegan Con to various performances at veg*n eateries and even a CD release show catered by Viva Vegetarian Grill and Coconut Bliss. Additionally, he choses to work vegan themes into many of his songs.

Vegan Smythe

“Karma’s Gonna Smack Ya” and “Animal Lover” are by Vegan Smythe, a Melbourne, Australia based entertainer who’s putting a fresh spin on animal rights through satirical songs and comedy. To learn more about Vegan and his music, please listen to our interview with him from September 2012.
